B-CC boys tennis beats WJThe Bethesda-Chevy Chase boys tennis team evened its record at 4-4 with a 4-3 win over Montgomery Division I foe Walter Johnson Friday. It was the Barons’ second division win of the year and helped soften the blow from Thursday’s 4-3 loss to division opponent Northwest. B-CC’s lineup is anchored by its senior Nos. 1 and 2, Arman Moussavi and Natty Sergay, and junior No. 3 Kan Onuchi. All three picked up wins Friday — Moussavi defeated Jamie Spies, 6-1, 6-1; Sergay pulled out a 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 win over Ouisha Eihd and Onuchi beat Rafael Coburn in straight sets. Erik Klontz and Beck Freidman pulled out B-CC’s fourth win at No. 2 doubles. The two had never played together before; both their partners were sidelined Friday. ‘‘It was nice to bounce back after Thursday’s loss and get a good division win,” B-CC coach John Zehner said. ‘‘We had a tough schedule early playing Wootton and Churchill. We knew to win matches against those teams beyond the elite we’d have to get wins from our top three players.” The doubles teams have been a question mark early in the year but are starting to come around as of late. Zehner had been experimenting with different matchups and looking for the right combinations and feels like he’s found it as the county tournament approaches — the regular season concludes on April 30. ‘‘We have four matches left,” Zehner said. ‘‘We’ve started to figure out who plays well with who and hope to be on a roll by counties. We’re going to try and advance as far as we can in each bracket and hope to finish in the top five or six.” Gymnasts still a perfect 10 The Bethesda-Chevy Chase gymnastics team continued its run of perfection with a dual meet win over Blair last Thursday, upending the Blazers, 172.75-151.7. All-around performances of sophomores Ebony Walters and Steph Golob and freshmen Whitney Boross and Julie Siegel led the Barons (4-0). Walters placed first in the all-round competition with a 37.8 followed by Boross (34.5), Golob (34.35) and Siegel (34.2). Walters placed first on vault (9.8), the balance beam (9.5) and the floor exercise (9.5) and tied for first with Boross for first place on uneven bars with scores of 9.0. Besides tying Walters for first on the uneven bars, Boross also took second on the floor exercise (9.0) and took fifth on vault (8.5).
