A motorcyclist died Saturday night after colliding with an automobile on Damascus Road in Damascus.

At about 7:30 p.m. Danny Andre Plante, 44, of the 7400 block of Brink Road in Gaithersburg was driving his 2003 Harley Davidson east in the 8900 block of Damascus Road near Viewland Drive when he lost control of his motorcycle, crossed the double yellow line and entered the westbound lane, according to county police.

His motorcycle collided with a 2000 Toyota Solara driven by Barbara Jean Mayberry, 61, of the 700 block of Valley Road in Knoxville, Md.

Although Plante was wearing a helmet, he died at the scene, according to police.

Mayberry sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Suburban Hospital, said Blanca Kling, a spokeswoman for the county police department. Mayberry was released from the hospital, she said. Her passengers, Evelyn Patricia Loffler, 73, of Gaithersburg and Diane Robrecth, 41, of Germantown, were not injured but they were taken to the hospital as a precaution, where they were treated and released, Kling said.

Officers from the Fifth District Police Station and the county’s Fire and Rescue Services responded to the crash. Police are still investigating the cause of the crash, Kling said.
