Roya’s letter to Thom about his BOD POD results

Dear Thom,

It was a pleasure to meet with you this morning. We, at Royal Fitness and Nutrition, are so proud of your discipline, motivation and what you have accomplished so far.

The results show that after being on The Gazette Healthy Challenge for just over 3 weeks, you are on the right track, and that you have made great progress in achieving your goal of healthy living.

The BodPod has been proven to be one of the most accurate means of evaluating a breakdown of body fat and lean mass (which is everything in your body other than the fat, including muscle, water, bone and internal organs). Today’s BodPod test shows that although your weight on the scale went down only one pound, your percentage of body fat has reduced by 3.5% and your lean mass has increased by 3.5%. This means a steady reduction of body fat and increase in lean mass of about 1% each week. If we break down your total weight in pounds of fat weight and lean weight, in the past three weeks, there has been a decrease of 6.9 lbs of fat and increase of 5.9 lbs of lean weight!

These are very promising results that prove that we are on the right track toward reaching your goals. By building more muscle, you have kicked up your metabolism, because having more muscle in your body requires the body to burn more calories than fat. So even when you are not being very active, your metabolism is working harder and requiring more calories to just keep up with your more muscular body!

Congratulations on your goal to run a 10K race in a couple of weeks. Please remember to keep your nutritionist aware of your upcoming event so that she makes the proper adjustments in your diet, to ensure you are getting enough nutrients and minerals as you prepare for this challenging race. We will be happy to work with her to prepare you for this event so that you don’t end up burning muscle instead of fat as training kicks up to a higher gear.

During our conversation today you expressed an interest that after the race you would like to work at building more muscle mass. I propose that we reevaluate your workout in a couple of weeks and increase the weights and sets, while decreasing the repetitions during your training sessions. In addition, we will be happy to work with your nutritionist to increase your intake of protein to help in muscle development.
