Wrestler of the Year
Brandonn Johnson, Middletown, Sr., 171 pounds (43-0)
On a quest to finish his final high school season with his first state championship, Johnson carved through his competition, going 43-0 while collecting 2A-1A West Region and Frederick County championships. During the season, he took on challenges at three different weight classes (171, 189 and 215).
Coach of the Year
Ben Arneson, Urbana
After losing by one point to Hereford the Class 4A-3A North Regional Duals semifinal, Arneson got his Hawks to recover and win a third consecutive Frederick County title and the Class 4A-3A North Regional title. Urbana was also fourth at the 4A-3A State Meet.
First Team
Chris Wampler, South Carroll, Soph., 103 pounds (26-5)
Finished third in both the Class 2A-1A state and West region meets.
Seth Chilson, Catoctin, Soph., 112 pounds (36-3)
After winning the Frederick County title, placed second in the 2A-1A West region and fourth at the state meet.
Tyler Bartholomew, Brunswick, Jr., 119 pounds (37-5)
In a tough class, placed third at the state 2A-1A and won the county title.
Adam Krop, Urbana, Jr., 119 pounds (39-1)
Won his second straight state championship by pinfall while taking the 4A-3A West Region and county crown as well.
Brendan Conway, Glenelg, Jr., 125 pounds (34-5)
Finished third in the state tournament while earning first-place finishes in the South Region and Howard County tournaments.
Chad Strube, Middletown, Jr., 125 pounds (40-3)
State 2A-1A champion also won the West region and county crowns as well.
Adam Dietrich, Frederick, Jr., 130 pounds (18-5)
Dietrich earned a county belt and second a second at the 4A-3A states.
Rion Reiter, South Carroll, Sr., 130 pounds (32-3)
Cavs' standout advanced to 2A-1A state and region finals in his final season.
Peter Tatanish, Urbana, Jr., 135 pounds (39-2)
One of his only two losses was in the 4A-3A finals. Earned county title.
Mike O'Leary, Glenelg, Jr., 145 pounds (30-11)
Worked his way to fourth place in the state tourney after capturing the South Region crown.
Spencer Strube, Urbana, Sr., 145 pounds (35-6)
A 4A-3A finalist as well as a Frederick County champ.
Tyler White, Walkersvile, Sr., 145 pounds (37-4)
In his last season before wrestling for the Naval Academy next season, White was 37-4 and a finalist in both the 2A-1A state and West Region meets.
Zach White, Walkersville, Sr., 152 pounds (41-3)
Like his brother Tyler, also finished runner-up in the 2A-1A and region finals and will also wrestle at Navy next season.
Mark Cross, MSD, Sr., 215 pounds (34-5)
Won 145 matches in his four-year career with the Orioles. Was second in the Maryland Independent Schools Tournament this season.
Sam Wright, South Carroll, Jr., 285 pounds (35-4)
Scrapped his way to a fifth-place showing in the state after winning the West Region.
