Coach of the Year

Mike Mathis

Walkersville, 10th year

The veteran head coach improved his overall career mark to 180-61 after winning the first 25 games this season. Walkersville beat every Frederick County opponent this year, and earned its third Class 2A West Region title in the past five years.

Player of the Year

Meredith Tolley

Urbana, Sr., F

The 6-foot Tolley was counted upon to provide a little bit of everything for the Hawks, who wound up as Class 3A West Region runner-ups to Paint Branch of Montgomery County. After missing the first six games due to injury, the Loyola College-bound standout paced her team to a 17-2 record after a 1-5 start. She averaged 18.4 points and 8.9 rebounds per game.

First team

nAlissa BourneGlenelg, Sr., G

Led her team in scoring with 13 points per contest while averaging nearly three assists and three rebounds. Will play soccer at Maryland.

nAdrienne DonelsonThomas Johnson, Sr., C

An improved offensive player at over 11 ppg, Donelson also grabbed over seven rebounds per game and with her height (6-1) changed plenty of shots.

nHolly HavensteinLinganore, Jr., C

A physical inside prescence at 6-2, Havenstein was a key element for the Lancers, averaging 11 ppg and eight rpg.

nSami KozlowskiLinganore, Sr., G

The Longwood College-bound guard paced Linganore in scoring with over 14 per game while also dishing out over five assists an outing.

  • Colleen McCarrickMiddletown, Jr., F

    The 5-9 guard led her team in scoring with over 13 ppg in addition to handing out almost three assist per contest.

  • Samantha SchanuelWalkersville, Sr., F

    At 6-4, Schanuel was an intimidating force under the basket, averaging 12 ppg and 10 rpg for the Lions, helping them to reach the Class 2A state finals. She has already signed a scholarship with Division-I Monmouth University in New Jersey.

    nMegan SeemanLinganore, Sr., G

    Crafty backcourt player, the four-year varsity player pumped in nearly 13 points per contest along with three apg for the Lancers.

    nApril SparkmanWalkersville, Sr., G⁄F

    The 5-10 Sparkman led the MVAL’s Piedmont Conference with 18 points per game to go with over three apg for the West Region champs.

    nKem WilsonThomas Johnson, Sr., F

    A tremendously gifted athlete, the 5-10 Wilson— who averaged 12 ppg and over seven rpg this winter—will play in the Atlantic Coast Conference next season as a member of the Wake Forest University squad.

    Second team

    nRachel BenedictMSD, Sr., G

    Galludet University-bound player averaged 13 points and 10 boards for the Orioles.

    nKelsey FranklinSouth Carroll, Sr., G

    Paced an improved Cavs’ squad with over 11 points per game.

    nCecelia HowardSt John’s-CP, Sr., G

    Led the Vikings with over 18 ppg this season.

    nJosie HildebrandWalkersville, Jr., G

    Posted averages of 11 points and three assists per game for the Lions.

  • Hannah McBeeUrbana, Sr., G

    Scrappy backcourt standout averaged 12 ppg and four apg for the Hawks.

    nAshley MetalCatoctin, Sr., F

    Gritty forward registered averages of 11 ppg and nine rpg for the Cougars.

    nKelsey HouseMiddletown, Jr., G

    Solid guard tallied averaged of 10 points and 3.4 apg for the Knights.

    nStephanie NaraThomas Johnson, Sr., G

    Provided steady scoring for the Patriots at over 11 ppg.

    nKatie SchwarzmannCentury, Sr., G

    Carroll County’s Player of the Year averaged 10 ppg and six apg.

    nAlyssa GeislerGlenelg, Sr., F

    Averaged 10 over ppg for Gladiators.
