First team

Coach of the Year

Arnie McGaha

Frederick, first year

In his first season with the Cadets after years with Linganore, McGaha took a group of undersized athletes and turned them into a cohesive unit, eventually finishing second in the Monocacy Valley Athletic League’s Piedmont Conference and winning the Class 2A West Region title, earning a berth into the state semifinals.

Player of the Year

Steve Custis

Frederick, Sr., G

There was nothing that the slender 6 foot 1 guardcouldn’t do on the court. He led the entire Monocacy Valley Athletic League in scoring at 26 points per game. He also snagged 8.5 rebounds per game, fifth in the entire MVAL. He also provided several highlight-reel dunks throughout the season with his tremendous leaping ability.

nJabari BrownWalkersville, Jr., F

Averaged 21.9 points per game, pulling down 9.6 rebounds per game as a 6-2 forward. Helped lead his team to the Class 2A West Region title game.

nPaul CroneMiddletown, Sr., G

At 6-2, averaged over 13 points, five rebounds and three assists per game. Will play at Gettysburg (Pa.) College.

nMatt FoleyThomas Johnson, Sr., G

A pure scorer, the 6-2 Foley poured in 21.9 points per game. Will play at York College next season.

nDereck HollandTuscarora, Jr., G

A transfer from Frederick High, the 6-4 Holland lit up opposing defenses for a Chesapeake Conference-best 23.8 points per game and ripped down 8.3 rebounds per contest.

nMike JarboeUrbana, Sr., G

The 6-1 Jarboe averaged 17.9 points, 5.7 rebounds and four assists per game for the Hawks.

nDee MencySt. John’s-Catholic Prep, Sr., G

North Hagerstown High transfer came to St. John’s this fall and took over the squad, averaging 22 points per game.

nMike MullikinUrbana, Sr., G

Provided a solid 1-2 punch with teammate Mike Jarboe, registering a team-high 18.1 ppg. Will play at Salisbury University next season.

nTyler Snoots

Thomas Johnson, Sr., F

Averaged a double-double for the Patriots, posting 14.7 points and 10.6 rebounds per game. The 6-5 Snoots was a solid, consistant post presence.

nChris ThompsonFrederick, Sr., F

At 6-1, the undersized post player rung up some impressive numbers against much bigger foes, averaging 17.8 and 7.3 rebounds an outing for the 2A West Region champs.

Second team

nTyler AushermanMiddletown, Sr., F

Averaged over 12 points and six rebounds per game.

nBrandon BeccioCentury, Sr., F

Tough inside player for the Knights averged just under 10 ppg and over 8 rpg.

nJosh ChmelikCatocin, Sr., G⁄F

Led his team in scoring with a 15.1 ppg average.

nDaniel FavaMSD, Sr., F

The Clerc Classic MVP totaled 15.8 ppg and 7.9 rpg for the Orioles. At 6-4, played tough under the basket.

nZack KebetzLinganore, Sr., G

The 6-5 backcourt sharpshooter led his team with 14.7 ppg and pulled down 6.7 rpg.

nScott LeahmannMSD Sr., G⁄F

All-around athlete had all around skills on the basketball court (14 ppg, 6.3 rpg, 5.9 apg)

nNikita MeshscharakovSJCP, Sr., F

A Division-I recuit, the 6-7 Russian-born transfer averaged 16 ppg and 6 rpg.

nRyan MillerLiberty, Jr., G

Part of an athletic trio for the Lions, averaging 14.9 ppg.

nZack SleightLiberty, Jr., G

Like his teammate Miller, also tossed in 14.9 ppg.

nColton WeaverLiberty, Jr., G

A three-sport standout and first-team All-Gazette quarterback, Weaver led the Lions with 15.2 ppg.
