College baseball players from all over the country are gearing up to play this summer for Bethesda Big Train Baseball, a summer collegiate wooden bat team that plays at Shirley Povich Field in Cabin John Park. The team is in search of a few good families to host the college students over summer months — from the end of May through early August — while the college students go to bat.

By day, most players will work as camp counselors for Big Train’s baseball camp, while playing baseball at night. Host families will receive a free family season pass to Shirley Povich Field, worth $125.

Bethesda Big Train’s season starts the last week of May and ends the first week of August. The team plays in the Cal Ripken Sr. league with other teams from College Park, Silver Spring, Rockville and Virginia. Families who are interested in hosting a student player should contact Joyce Semmes, host family coordinator, at 301-530-0911 or e-mail faninfo@bigtrain.org. For more information, visit the teams Web site at www.bigtrain.org.
