Students sent home after ‘staredown’ return to class

Eleven Urbana High School students are back in school after being sent home one day last week to cool down from a ‘‘staredown.”

The students threateningly eyed each other in the school on March 20, said Frederick County Public Schools spokeswoman Marita Loose.

‘‘The stare down is a form of intimidation,” Loose said.

The same students had allegedly confronted each other over the weekend. Loose said teachers were afraid whatever happened earlier would erupt in the school.

‘‘The principal decided to send the students home for the day and they gradually returned to school after conferences with the students and their parents,” Loose said.
