Wake up, Maryland!

When are Maryland residents going to wake up?

Residents in Montgomery and Prince George’s counties, as well as Baltimore City, are pretty much out of step with the rest of the state.

It’s always tax-and-spend with them, never live within our means.

Slots would never work under the previous administration, yet here we are about to have that question placed on the 2008 ballot.

Remember how the lottery was to bring all kinds of money into the treasury? New schools, roads, police and fire? You get the picture. It didn’t happen because greed spent the money elsewhere.

Make no mistake, the people who spend money on gambling are the ones who least can afford it.

We just had a special session to raise taxes immediately. They couldn’t wait for the regular session in January 2008. We now find that the legality of the special session was challenged. No one is above the law, and we’re supposed to have equal justice under the law.

Remember a real estate deal last summer that the State of Maryland was to purchase a choice piece of land on Kent Island, with taxpayer money? Never mind the conflict of interest or the bid process not being followed.

What I’m writing about is just a fraction of things that come to my mind, being a resident of Maryland for 54 years.

Wake up, people!
