Player of the Year

Steven Burke, Bullis, Jr., forward; Speedy forward paced all Maryland Scholastic Hockey League scorers, public and private, with 56 points and 33 goals. Helped lead Bulldogs to Interstate Athletic Conference championship and private school tournament semifinals.

Coach of the Year

J.T. Burton, Bethesda-Chevy Chase, 6th year, After up-and-down regular season, juggled lines for playoffs. Found right combinations at right time, and team swept to regional championship. Also took B-CC to state semifinals, deepest run of any Montgomery County public-school team.

First team

* Greg Cohen, Wootton, Sr., forward; Captain provided senior leadership on deep and talented team, contributing team-high 21 points.

* Michael Fayad, Bullis, Sr., defense; Bulldogs’ top defender also chipped in 13 goals and 21 assists from blue line for IAC champions.

* Zach Greenwald, Churchill, Jr., forward; After early-season illness, was player opposing defenses had to watch during late-season and playoff run.

* Avery Hackett, Walter Johnson, Sr., defense; Lockdown defender especially valuable in postseason with leadership, quickness, stick-handling.

* Ryan Haughey, Bethesda-Chevy Chase, Jr., goalie; Rock on which team’s playoff run was built, shut out Churchill in penalty shootout for regional title.

* Matt Mitchell, Wootton, Sr., goalie; Led MSHL public-school netminders with 1.46 goals-against average, including four shutouts.

* Mike Montross, Bethesda-Chevy Chase, Sr., forward; Dynamic playmaker led county public-schoolers with 21 assists, and team with 33 total points.

* Nick Petersen, Georgetown Prep, Sr., forward; Skillful power forward led Little Hoyas to private-school tourney berth with 42 points in regular season.

* Ryan Ulf, Walter Johnson, Jr., defense; Standout since freshman season, big blueliner boasts one of league’s fiercest shots.
