Home⁄office of Dr. Ulysses G. Bourne, 30 W. All Saints St. Bourne (1863-1956) practiced medicine out of his home from 1903 to 1953 before moving to South Street. Bourne founded the Maryland Negro Medical Society and helped found the Frederick branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) in 1931.
Though the neighborhood has changed in the last several decades, All Saints Street in Frederick holds numerous historical reminders of the city’s past, most notably as a hub for African-American culture and businesses. In 2001, the African-American Resources Cultural and Heritage (AARCH) committee published a guide of historical places. For more on the AARCH self-guided tour brochure, created under the Frederick Historic Site Consortium, go to www.frederickhsc.org and select ‘‘About FHSC.”
