Walter Johnson

A lot of programs’ results stayed the same or dropped off this season, but Grimes helped the Walter Johnson girls improve on every result from last year. The Wildcats jumped up from fourth to second at both the Division I and county competitions and moved up one place at Metros to fifth.

Swimmer of the Year

Liz Kemp

Good Counsel, Sr.

University of Florida-bound swimmer set a pool record in the 50 freestyle at Villanova, set national high-school record in 200 medley relay and Metros record in 50 freestyle. Also won 100 butterfly at Metros.

nAlexis DeMond, Churchill, Sr.

Beat out fellow All-American diver Shana Karp to win counties and Metros.

nHeather Denman, Sherwood, Soph.

Placed third in 100 butterfly at Metros and finished second in the 100 backstroke, setting a meet record.

nColleen Haase, Good Counsel, Jr.

Part of national record-setting medley relay team, also set a meet record en route to winning the 100 breaststroke at Metros.

nKatura Harvey, Richard Montgomery, Jr.

Finished only behind nationally ranked Kate Ziegler in the 200 and 500 freestyle events at Metros, won both events at counties.

nSusan Kim, Richard Montgomery, Sr.

Set county record in 100 breaststroke, finished second in the event at Metros.

nKelli Kyle, Good Counsel, Soph.

Part of Good Counsel medley relay team that dominated Metros, also set a Metros record in the 100 backstroke en route to winning the event.

nColleen Law, Whitman, Sr.

Missed Metros in hospital, but won 200 individual medley and finished second in 100 freestyle at counties.

nElena Spak, Walter Johnson, Soph.

Placed third in 50 freestyle and second in the 100 freestyle at Metros, won both at the county meet.

nMegan Waters, Good Counsel, Jr.

Won 200 medley relay and 100 freestyle at Metros, placed second in 50 freestyle.
