Swimmers of the Year
Evan Wollman, DeMatha, Sr.
Wollman capped his senior season by becoming the first DeMatha swimmer in six years to win an event at the Washington Metropolitan Swim Championships, when he took the 100-yard breaststroke in school-record time (56.07 seconds). The University of Florida recruit was part of the 200 medley relay (1 minute, 37.47 seconds) that finished third at Metros and established a school record. He established a meet record of 56.31 for the 100 breast at the Metro Prep meet.
Hannah Betman, Roosevelt, Sr.
Making her fourth appearance on the All-County first team, Betman is a two-time Gazette-Star Swimmer of the Year, having also been selected in 2008. She won the 200-yard freestyle and 500 free at the county championship meet. She won the 500 free and was second in the 200 free at the 4A/3A Central Region meet and then finished third in the 500 free and fourth in the 200 free at the state championships.
Coach of the Year
Anne Koroknay, Roosevelt, third season
In her third season, Koroknay guided the girls' team to an undefeated league record and the boys to an 11-1 mark and a share of the county dual meet title. Koroknay led the senior-laden girls to the county championship, a second-place finish at the 4A Central Region meet and a third-place finish at the state championships. The Raider girls have won one state title, two region crowns and three county titles under Koroknay.
Girls first team
Emily Morse, Roosevelt, Sr.
Making her fourth appearance on Gazette-Star first team, Morse was vital in the Raiders' successful run to a 10th straight county title and third-place finish at the state meet. She was second in the 200 IM and fourth in the 100 butterfly at the state meet after winning the 200 IM at the regional meet. Morse also captured both the 200 IM and 100 fly at the county championships.
Kendall Irish, Roosevelt, Sr.
The versatile swimmer concluded her career by finishing fourth in the 100 breast and fifth in the 100 fly at the state meet. Irish finished second in the 200 IM and the 100 fly at the county championship meet and was second in the 100 breast and the 100 fly at the regional meet.
Courtney Like-Mathews, Roosevelt, Fr.
One of two freshman to make the first team, Like-Mathews won the 100 back (1:03.85) at the county championships, and took second and fourth, respectively, in the regional and state meets. She finished third in the 200 IM at the regional meet and sixth in the state.
Grace Kelly, McNamara, Jr.
The junior had two stellar performances at Metros. Kelly won the B final of the 200 free (1:56.79) and the 100 free (54.74) to finish 11th overall in both events. Her final time in the 100 free was the eighth best and her effort in the 200 free was the ninth fastest of the 20 finalists in both heats.
Valerie Barlow, Seton, Sr.
Following in the school's tradition of fast freestylers, the senior posted fast clockings in the 50 free (26.23) and 100 free (57.89) and anchored the Roadrunners' 200 free and 400 free relays at National Catholics and Metros.
Amanda Barber, McNamara, Soph.
In her first season with the Mustangs, the sophomore had an immediate impact. She finished 15th in the 50 free and 21st in the 100 free and anchored the 200 medley relay team at Metros. Barber recorded a season-best of 55.76 in the 100 free at National Catholics.
Jade Hill, Laurel, Fr.
The freshman won the 100 breast at the county and 4A/3A Central Region meets before settling for fifth at the state meet. She also was a member of the 200 medley and 400 free relays that established school records at the state meet.

Boys first team
Mike Jolly, DeMatha, Sr.
The senior was seventh in the 100 back. He also swam the backstroke leg of the 200 medley relay (1:37.47) that established a school record at Metros and was the third leg of the 400 free relay that placed seventh at that meet.
John Kundrat, DeMatha, Jr.
The junior emerged as the Stags' best swimmer in the 100 free and 200 free and finished 10th and 11th, respectively, in those events at Metros. He also swam on the 200 free relay and anchored the 400 free relay at Metros.
Cameron Lancon, DeMatha, Soph.
One of the best underclassmen in the county, the Stags' sophomore finished seventh in the 100 fly (52.21) at Metros. He also was eighth in the 100 back at the Metro Prep meet after lowering his seed time by nearly two seconds in the prelim.
Max Allegro, McNamara, Jr.
The Mustangs' junior maintained his status as one of the best sprinters in the county and earned his second straight spot on the first team. Allegro recorded a season-best of 22.89 in the 50 free and 1:01.47 in the 100 back.
Brian Laufer, Bowie, Jr.
Consistently fast throughout the season, Laufer won the 50 free and 100 breast at the county championship meet and finished fourth and sixth, respectively, in those events at the state meet. He swam the breaststroke leg of the 200 medley relay and the anchor leg of the 200 free relay that finished second at the county championship meet.
Lee Friedman, Roosevelt, Fr.
The freshman had an immediate impact for the Raiders, who finished second to Bowie at the county championship meet. Friedman won the 200 IM at the county meet and finished second to Laufer in the 100 breast. Friedman was seventh in the 100 breast and 10th in the 200 IM at the state meet.
Andrew Jennings, Bowie, Jr.
Another key component in the Bulldogs' run to a county title, Jennings won the 100 free and 100 backstroke at the county championship meet and led off the first-place 200 medley relay. He took second in the 100 free and fourth in the 100 back at the 4A/3A Central Region meet and was ninth in the 100 free and 15th in the 100 back at the state meet.
