Frederick chamber honors top companies

Second annual Summit Awards to be presented next week

An aviation company, event planner and vaccine company are among the Frederick County businesses to be honored next week.

The Frederick County Chamber of Commerce has announced the winners of its second annual Summit Awards, given to county businesses that have distinguished themselves in the last year, said M. Richard ‘‘Ric” Adams, chamber president and CEO.

The chamber will honor the award winners at its annual meeting at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Dutch’s Daughter Restaurant in Frederick.

‘‘These awards are for the Frederick County businesses that really stand out and contribute to the community,” Adams said. ‘‘It really is a competition, and these are the standouts.”

The 2007 Summit Award winners:

*Frederick Aviation: The Frederick aviation services, management and maintenance firm won the At Your Service Award for making the Frederick Municipal Airport a destination for more travelers.

*The Main Event: The Mount Airy event planning service won the Entrepreneurial Award for being a firm with fewer than 50 employees that provides an innovative service.

*Real Estate Teams: The Frederick real estate brokerage won the Innovation Award for experiencing an increase in sales and profitability through innovation.

*Equipment Development Co. Inc.: The Frederick surface-preparation and sawing-equipment company won the Made in Frederick County Award for its high product quality, increased production and sales growth.

*Frederick Innovative Technology Center Inc.: The nonprofit, which operates Frederick County’s business incubator, won the Partner in Business Award for developing a close partnership with the county business community.

*DynPort Vaccine Co. LLC: The Frederick biopharmaceutical company won the Technology Award for its advances in technology resulting in growth for the company, which develops biodefense products such as botulism, influenza and plague vaccines.

*Manpower Professional: The Frederick recruitment company won the Work Force Development Award for providing employee training and educational opportunities.
