Runner of the Year
Denny Long, Roosevelt
No other boys' runner in the county was as dominant in a given event as Long in the 300 meters. Long's state championship winning time of 35.25 seconds was third-best in the state this season. Long captured the 4A East championship in the 300 and took third at the county meet.

Field Athlete of the Year
Jeff Butler, Wise
Butler won the county championship, and his 52-feet, 9.5-inch effort was the fourth-best mark in the state this season. Butler finished second at the 4A East Region and fourth at the state championships.

Coach of the Year
Carl Rose, Flowers
Rose did not seem satisfied with his boys' team's performance in winning the 4A East Region championship. The following week, the Jaguars' met their coaches' challenge and nearly won the 4A state championship. Rose stood proud of the team's effort as they challenged for the state title until the final event of the meet.

First Team
Michael Stennett, Flowers
Stennett won the 4A East Region and county titles in the 55. The senior just missed out on a state championship, finishing second (6.62 seconds). His season-best 6.57 was 15th-best in the state.

Robert Moore, Largo
Moore saved his best effort for last. His 7.85-second effort in the 55-meter hurdles at the 3A state championship meet was the seventh-best time in the state this season.

Mike Rowland, Flowers
Rowland finished second and third, respectively, in the 300 and 500 at the 4A East Region meet and fourth in the state in the 500, and was one of the county's most consistent runners.

Mark Davis, Central
Proving a strong performer under pressure, Davis won the county title in the 300 with his season-best 35.3-second performance. He also captured the state 2A 300 title.

Cortney Mazyck, Suitland
Mazyck always found himself near the top performers in the 55 hurdles. He finished second at the state and county meets, while taking third at the 4A East Region meet.

Jovon Edwards, Roosevelt
The senior was one of the best in the 800. His 4A East Region winning time of 1 minute, 58.50 seconds was second-best in state this season. He also won the county 800 title.

George Empty, Flowers
Empty has become a regular near the top of middle distance competitions. He won the 500 at the county and 4A East Region meets and was second in the 800 at the county championships.

Ben McKenzie, Largo
McKenzie finished third in the 300 and 500 at the 3A state championships, while taking second in the 300 and third in the 500 at the 3A West Region meet.

William Kellogg, DeMatha
Kellogg finished second in the 500 at the Private School Invitational Feb. 7, and his time of 1:06.07 was sixth-best in the state this season. He also took second in the 500 at the Friends of Indoor Track Invitational.

Brian Faherty, Roosevelt
The senior swept the 1,600 and 3,200 runs at the county and 4A East Region championships. Faherty finished third in the 3,200 at the 4A state championships.

Cory Puffett, DeMatha
Puffett won the 3,200 at the Private School Invitational, and his time of 9:27.35 was the third-best in the state this season. Puffett finished third in the mile at the Last Track to Philly Invitational.

Jerimiah Hendy, Bowie
The junior won the high jump at the county and region championships. Hendy's 6-feet, 4-inch performance at the 4A East Region meet was the state's 10th-best leap this season.

Dwayne Powell, Flowers
A single performance in the long jump stands alone. Powell's 22-feet, 11.75-inch effort at the county championships was the best in the state this season.
