County police charged three men in connection with a home robbery and assault that occurred Feb. 11 in the Fairland neighborhood of Silver Spring.
Alexander Mendoza, 28, of the unit block of Elton Drive in Silver Spring, Alex Concepcion Avelar, 22, of the 8300 block of 14th Street in Hyattsville and Jose Rivera-Dominguez, 18, of the 1000 block of Quebec Terrace in Silver Spring, were charged Feb. 17 with attempted robbery, first-degree burglary and kidnapping, according to a news release from Montgomery County Police.
They are each being held on a $500,000 bond.
A 44-year-old man who lives on the 1700 block of Hopefield Road received a call from a concerned female neighbor at about 12:40 p.m. Feb. 11, who claimed she saw unknown men in his backyard.
As the man came home, he saw a suspicious vehicle in his driveway. Realizing he might be interrupting a burglary, he went to the backyard and saw his sliding glass door was broken.
Just then, three men came out of the broken door. According to police, they physically assaulted the homeowner and attempted to take his wallet.
They were dragging him into the residence — an action that constitutes kidnapping in Maryland, a police spokeswoman said — when a neighbor who was outside attempted to intervene. He was also physically assaulted, according to police.
The men then fled in their vehicle. Police believe they did not take any property.
