The Frederick County YMCA Tidal Force Swim Team participated in the Queen City Classic Swim Meet on January 31, 2009 in Cumberland, placing third overall as a team.
The FCY set three new team records. Marley Tierney, 8-and-under Girls 50 yard backstroke, Tasha Freed in the 9-10 Girls 200 Breaststroke, and Kelsey Lake 15-18 Girls 400 Individual Medley. The girls team placed second, and the boys third in the combined third place showing.

On Saturday, February 7, several Lightning XC Club runners earned honors in the USA Cross Country Championships Community 4K race in Derwood.
The girls team consisting of 10 year olds Anna Hartman, Samantha Lee, and Jennifer Simmons along with 9-year old Sarah Glick and 7 year old Brin Strouse won both the open women's (age 39 and under) and high school girls (age 18U) team championships.
The Lightning boys squad consisting of Garet Strouse (age 15), Greyson Strouse (12), Daniel Glick (13), Dan Beck (13), Mark Newberry (14), and 11 year-olds Cliff Tilley and Elijah Glick finished second in the Community 4 km high school age team competition. Top 50 Individual performances were achieved by Garet Strouse (17th), Greyson Strouse (20th), Daniel Glick (42nd), and Beck (50th).
David Glick (father of Sarah, Elijah, and Daniel) finished first the Community 4 km men's 45- 49 bracket and 25th overall.
Lightning XC head coach, Darcy Strouse, competing in the USA Cross Country Championships Master's Women's 8 km race, finished 13th overall in the national master's race and 7th in the nation in the 40 – 45 age-group.
LRC, a developmental running club for youth in Frederick and its neighboring counties, is currently accepting registrations for two running programs: a Distance Running and Road Racing program for youth and their parents from February to August.

The Maryland Predators Ballenger Creek 11U team, based in Frederick, has one more opening left on its team for the Spring 2009 season.

The Maryland Mavericks are now holding tryouts for its AAU basketball teams.

The Mount Airy Youth Athletic Association is continuing its Spring Sports registration.

Tee-ball is offered on the clinic level, for boys and girls ages 3 and 4. Boys and girls 4 to 6 years of age
play regular tee-ball games. MAYAA baseball offers Cal Ripken and Babe Ruth-sanctioned baseball for players ages 6-18.
Travel baseball is offered in various age groups. Please see website for further information.
Girls lacrosse is available on the clinic level for pre-k to first grade. Travel teams are offered to girls from grade 1-8.
The fee for clinic level is $50.00 while all travel is $105.00.
MAYAA's boys lacrosse program will be offered to players in Under-9, U11, U13 and U15 age groups . The cost per registrant is $110.00.
Boys and girls soccer is filling up on the travel level. Returning travel players who have not registered should contact their coach or mayaasoccer@aol.com. Clinic players ages 4- 7 may continue to register on www.mayaasports.org.
Registration will continue to mid-February.
Evaluations for LUYAA Lightning Travel and Select Spring Baseball Teams for players ages 12 through 15 will be held on Saturday, Feb. 14 from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. at the LUYAA Baseball training facility at 801 N. East Street in Frederick.
The 13U travel team will play in the Mid-Atlantic Baseball Association, The 12U travel team will be compete in the MCBA, and the 13-15 Select teams will play in the Frederick Babe Ruth Baseball league.
