Open Forum: Seeking voter support

On Feb. 12, the state of Maryland will finally have its say in the nomination in the presidential primary races. You can see by the extraordinary turnout in the early contests and on Super Tuesday that the electorate is fully engaged in the campaign and the selection of the next president of the United States.

In addition to the actual presidential candidates on the ballot, you will also have a choice for delegates who will represent the individual candidates at their respective conventions later this year. In Maryland, we will chose delegates proportionally by congressional district on Feb. 12. Most of you reading this letter reside in the 5th Congressional District, which includes parts of Anne Arundel and Prince George’s, and all of Charles, Calvert and St. Mary’s counties.

I am a candidate for delegate in the primary and kindly ask for your vote on Feb. 12. I have been active politically, both locally and nationally for over 20 years, including being a delegate at the 2000 convention and being elected to municipal office in 2005. I encourage every registered voter to participate in this unique opportunity for Maryland next Tuesday.
