More locals make their college choices

A number of Glenelg High athletes have either officially or verbally committed to participating in intercollegiate sports in the fall.

A Class 2A-1A state finalist, region and Howard County champion in two weight classes, Danny Bichner, a First Team All-Gazette selection last season, will wrestle at the University of Maryland. Joining Bichner in College Park is First Team All-Gazette lacrosse selection Kristy Black who tallied 53 goals and 21 assists as a junior. Teammate and Honorable Mention All-Gazette selection Lauren Giraldi will play lacrosse at the University of Vermont.

Two members of the Gladiators’ state championship boys’ lacrosse team have decided where they’ll play in college.

Kyle Hofstellar will take the field at the Virginia Military Institute while First Team All-Gazette and Howard County pick Jon Selfridge is set to enroll at Division III Lynchburg University. Two-time state champion and First Team All-Gazette team member Larkin Nixon will play soccer at Georgetown University. Girls basketball co-captain and honorable mention All-Gazette selection Katie Biggs is headed to Shepherd University in West Virginia.

A pair of South Carroll female athletes has accepted scholarships to compete in NCAA Division I athletics.

Three-sport star Brigid McTavish will play goalkeeper for the Mount St. Mary’s lacrosse team. She is a past All-Gazette and All-MVAL Piedmont Conference selection as a field hockey goalie. Two-time All-Gazette field hockey and All-MVAL Piedmont selection Katie DiFilippo has committed to play forward for Towson University.
