Holy Redeemer teams win playoff games

The Holy Redeemer varsity girls’ basketball team improved to 8-0 with a 32-13 victory against Mary of Nazareth on Sunday in the first round of the District Tournament. Brianna Lawton led the way with 10 points. Tiffany Padgett and Megan Scribner each had seven points. Monica Llerena added four points, and Stephanie Beatty and Alyssa Howard each had two points. Rebecca Brown and Lauren Buckholtz also contributed in the victory.

JV girls win

The Holy Redeemer JV girls’ basketball team was a 28-24 winner against St. Pius X in the first round of the playoffs. Ali Andrews led Holy Redeemer with nine points. Kelly Gorman added eight points and Daryn Robinson had four. Erin Bistany added three points and AnnaLena Pirovic and Emma Davis each had two points. Sophia Galvan and Caitlyn Brown led the way on defense, and Margerie Snider and Jamie McCauley each had several rebounds.

Beltsville-Adelphiholds registration

The Beltsville-Adelphi Boys and Girls Club is holding registration for spring sports. Register online at or in person from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday evenings at the club, 11705 Robey Ave. in Beltsville. Spring sports include clinic soccer for ages 4-7, soccer for ages 7-18, T-ball for ages 5-7, coach-pitch baseball for ages 7-9, baseball for ages 10-14 and softball for ages 7-14. Registration ends Feb. 15. The annual membership fee per family is $40.

Basketball events planned

The Maryland Ruff Riders are hosting the Hoops Explosion youth basketball tournament the weekend of Feb. 22-24. The tournament is open to all boys and girls basketball teams in the U-8 through U-14 age groups. Registration is $250 per team. There will be a DJ, raffles, fish fry and free entertainment.
