Greenbelt police blotter

Center City

Jan. 26

3:53 p.m., area of 12 Crescent Road. Open alcohol arrests. James Wamaling, 56, and Carol Sue Burton, 46, both of Hillside; William Powel, 40, of the 7000 block of Vanity Fair Drive and Marl Allen Hecker, 36, of Laurel Hill were arrested and charged with possessing open alcohol in public. Officers responded to a report of several people drinking near the pedestrian overpass. All four were released on citation pending trial.

Burglaries

Jan. 28

10:07 a.m., 100 block of Westway. Attempt burglary. Someone made a pry mark in the keyhole of the deadbolt of the resident’s door and attempted to pry the door handle but didn’t get in.

Drug violations⁄arrests

Jan. 31

10:20 a.m., 11 Crescent Road area. Possession of CDS – marijuana arrest. A 17-year-old Greenbelt youth was arrested for possession of marijuana. While on routine patrol, an officer observed the teen, who appeared to be truant, and attempted to stop him. He ran from the officer but was later located in the library. He was found to be in possession of marijuana and charged on juvenile petition for possession of marijuana and CDS paraphernalia and released to his mother pending action by the Juvenile Justice System.

1:53 p.m., Stream Valley Park (at rear of 121 Northway). Possession of CDS paraphernalia arrests. Joshua Craig Yettou, 23, of the 7700 block of Lakecrest Drive and David Elliot Dodge, 31, of Fayette Place. Officers on routine patrol observed two men in the city park. Both were found to be in possession of hypodermic syringes used for CDS. Yetoou and Dodge were charged on criminal citations with possession of CDS paraphernalia and released, pending trial.

Robberies

Jan. 27

8:42 p.m., area of 22 Parkway. Robbery. A food delivery person said she walked into an apartment building attempting to make a delivery when she was grabbed by two men each armed with handguns. After taking money and a cell phone, the men fled the area on foot. The men are described as white, 15 to 18, 5 feet 6 inches tall to 5 feet 9 inches tall, 160 to 180 pounds, wearing a black puffy winter coat and black bandanna with white skulls covering his face; and black, 15 to 18, 5 feet 6 inches tall to 5 feet 9 inches tall, 160 to 180 pounds, wearing a black puffy hooded jacket and a black bandanna with red print.

Springhill Lake⁄Beltway Plaza⁄Greenbelt Metro⁄Capitol Office Park

Jan. 24

10:30 p.m., 9200 block of Springhill Lane. Trespass arrest. Tony Donelle Ducket, 25, of the 6200 block of Baltic Street in Capitol Heights was arrested and charged with trespassing after he was seen on the grounds of the Springhill Lake Shopping Center after he had been banned by agents of the property. He was released on citation pending trial.

Jan. 25

10:14 a.m., 6000 block of Greenbelt Road. Theft arrest. A 17-year-old Hyattsvilleyouth has been petitioned for theft and forgery after he allegedly cashed a check belonging to another person at the Giant supermarket.

Jan. 28

10:27 p.m., 9100 block of Edmonston Road. Disorderly conduct arrest. Jason Allen Shupe, 30, of the 500 block of Capitol Heights Blvd. in Capitol Heights was arrested for disorderly conduct in a public place and released on citation pending trial.

Jan. 29

1:27 p.m., 6000 block of Breezewood Drive. Alcohol beverage – open container arrests. Ramon Ruiz, 30, and Amir Jose-Clemente, 27, both of Breezewood Drive, were arrested and released from the scene on criminal citations, pending trial.

Jan. 30

4:36 p.m., 9200 block of Springhill Lane. Trespass arrest. Timothy Luke Howell, age 19, of the 7500 block of Mandan Road, was arrested and removed from the property after having previously been banned. He was transported to the station where he was released on a criminal citation, pending trial.

Burglaries

Jan. 31

3:59 p.m., 9300 block of Edmonston Road. Burglary. Someone entered the apartment and removed an empty DVD rack. There were no signs of forced entry.

Drug violations⁄arrests

Jan. 29

8 p.m., 6100 block of Breezewood Drive. Possession of CDS - marijuana arrest. Sheldon Lamont Sheffield, 18, of the 2900 block of Nelson Place in S.E., Washington, D. C. While on routine patrol, an officer saw a man pull baggies containing suspected marijuana from his pocket and then a cigar blunt from the same coat, which he began cutting open. He was placed under arrest and transported to the Department of Corrections for a hearing before a District Court Commissioner.

10: 42 a.m., 6300 block of Greenbelt Road. Possession of CDS – marijuana arrest. Ricco Tyrone Green, 34, of the 1900 block of 15th Street in N.W., Washington, D. C. was arrested and charged with possession of CDS and charged on traffic citations for operating unregistered vehicle, uninsured vehicle, driving without a license and driving while suspended out of state. A routine computer check on a vehicle tag revealed that it has been cancelled. During the traffic stop, the driver presented only a Washington, D. C. identification card and it was revealed that the driver was found to have an open warrant through the Prince George’s County Sheriff’s Department for driving while uninsured. The driver was placed under arrest and also found to have a baggie containing suspected marijuana in his possession. He was transported to the Department of Corrections for warrant service and for presentation to the District Court Commissioner for a hearing.

Robberies

Jan. 29

4:22 p.m., 6000 block of Greenbelt Road. Attempt robbery. A man said he was assaulted by three suspects while he was walking back to work. The men then attempted to take his property when he struck one man in his face and ran. The first man was described as Hispanic with long hair wearing a black University of Maryland jacket with red lettering; the second man was described as a black, wearing a dark-colored hood and dark clothing. No description was given for the third man.

Jan. 30

4 p.m., 6000 block of Springhill Drive. Strong arm robbery. A man said he was walking home on Metro Drive when a vehicle passed him and then stopped. Two men from the vehicle approached him from behind and demanded he get on the ground. He got on the ground and the men rummaged through his jacket pockets taking his cell phone and wallet. The men then re-entered the vehicle and drove away. Both men were described as black, in their 20’s, one was described as about 5 feet 6 inches tall and thin, both last seen wearing all dark clothing. The vehicle was black in color, a two door sedan with tinted winows.

Greenbelt East

There were no incidents reported other than those listed below under ‘‘Automotive Crime.”

Automotive crime, recovered stolen vehicles, vandalisms to, thefts from, and attempt thefts from vehicles were reported in the following areas: (stolen vehicle entries include description).

Jan. 25

9100 block of Edmonson Road. Stolen auto. A 2000 Chrysler van. The vehicle was recovered the same day in the 9100 block of Springhill Lane. No arrests.

Recovered⁄stolen auto. A 2001 Dodge Caravan reported stolen on Jan. 18 from the 9100 block of Edmonston Court was recovered by the Washington Metropolitan Police Department in northeast Washington, D.C. One arrest was made, no further.

Jan. 26

7400 block of Greenbelt Road. Theft from auto.

Jan. 27

6000 block of Springhill Drive. Attempt theft of auto.

Unit block of Lakeside Drive. Vandalism to auto.

9200 block of Edmonston Road. Vandalism to auto.

Jan. 28

5800 block of Cherrywood Lane. Stolen auto. A black 1997 Honda Civic, Maryland tags 5DST26.

9100 block of Edmonston Road. Vandalism to auto.

Jan. 29

Recovered⁄stolen auto. A black 1996 Chevrolet Tahoe reported stolen Jan. 25 from the 6100 block of Greenbelt Road was recovered this day by a Washington Metropolitan Police Department officer. No arrests.

Jan. 30

7200 block of Morrison Drive. Theft from auto – GPS system – 2 incidents.

7400 block of Morrison Drive. Theft from auto – GPS system.

7300 block of Morrison Drive. Theft from auto – GPS system – 2 incidents.

6400 block of Ivy Lane. Theft from auto – GPS system.

6500 block of Springshire Way - GPS system – 2 incidents.

6800 block of Greenbelt Crescent Court – GPS system.

7000 block of Matthew Street - GPS system.

7500 block of Mandan Road. Stolen auto. A 2007 silver 4-door Toyota Yaris, Maryland tags 8CYW24.
