Floatella C. Riggs

Floatella Carbaugh Riggs, 73, of Thurmont, formerly of Jefferson, died Feb. 3, 2008, at Frederick Memorial Hospital.

Born on July 16, 1934, she was predeceased by her parents, Joseph A. Carbaugh and Clara Chew Carbaugh of Frederick, a sister, Dorothy V. Dade of Jefferson and a sister-in-law, Bessie “Peck“ Carbaugh, of Jefferson.

A 1952 graduate of Frederick High School, Mrs. Riggs was a member of Lunch Bunch. She was a lifelong member of Harriet Chapel, Thurmont where she served as church secretary for several years. She was a former member of the Brunswick Chapter of Jobs Daughters. She was a member of the Plymouth Chapter No. 41 Order of Eastern Star; she served as Worthy Matron in 1991 and 1992. She was also a former member of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Jefferson Volunteer Fire Company. She was a retiree of F&M Bank, having worked as a bank teller and later in human resources and the Comptrollers Division as a secretary. She also volunteered for Hospice.

She is survived by a brother, Harry F. Carbaugh, Sr., of Jefferson; a former husband James W. Riggs, Sr., of Berkley Springs, W.Va.; a former brother-in-law, Stanley Dade, Jefferson; a daughter, Lynne R. Gartrell of Greencastle, Pa.; a son, James W. Riggs, Jr. and his wife Lisa Riggs of Buckeystown; and six grandchildren, Jamie Lynne Gartrell, David Gartrell, James W. Riggs, III, Catlin Riggs, Laceyann Riggs, and Thomas Riggs. She also is survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends gathered Wednesday at Keeney and Basford P.A. Funeral Home, Frederick. Funeral services are scheduled for 6:30 p.m., today at Harriet Chapel, Catoctin Episcopal Parish, Thurmont. Memorial contributions may be made in her name to Hospice of Frederick County, P.O. Box 1799, Frederick, MD 21702.

John H. Woods, 64, of Ijamsville, died peacefully on Jan. 10, 2008, surrounded by his family.

He was the husband of Patricia A. Woods. Born April 10, 1943, in Washington, D.C., he was the son of the late Edward Woods and Eleanor Fletcher Woods Olczak.

Mr. Woods attended Wheaton High School and received his high school diploma while serving in the U. S. Navy from 1960-63. He was a member of Union Local 285, Lithographer and Photoengravers and St. Paul's Catholic Church, Damascus. He coached youth baseball. He was a retired lithographic color prover.

Surviving in addition to his wife are children John C. Woods and his wife Lisa of Middletown, Ron Woods of Mount Airy, Sean Woods and his wife Kristi of Thurmont and Tammy Feaster and her husband Jeremy Feaster of Frederick; grandchildren Skylar, Tristan and Ritter Woods and JD Feaster; sisters Mary Ellen Cook and husband Ernie of Olney and Linda Pappas and husband George of Mount Airy; and brother William Seetoo of Frederick. He will be fondly remembered by his fishing buddy Ken Ward and his wife Bridget.
