Alex Marrero, 5, of Eldersburg gets a white balloon doggie from balloon sculptor Silly Willy at Sykesville Family Fun Day held July 7 at Millard Cooper Park. The annual event is one of several that the town Parks and Events Committee will plan for the current year.
Sykesville’s Parks and Events Committee is gearing up for spring and summer.

The committee, which released a list of activities for the warm weather, will need help to make each event a success, said Susan Dolan, committee co-chairwoman.

‘‘We always need people, not only for ideas, but actually to manage events,” Dolan said.

To pitch an idea or to help, she encourages residents to attend the committee’s 6:30 p.m. Monday meeting at the Town House, 7547 Main St., Sykesville.

Meetings are typically scheduled the third Monday of the month, but this one was rescheduled due to Presidents’ Day.

The committee needs adult volunteers and students who need service learning hours, Dolan said.

The committee is also looking for three more members to help plan and execute events, said Jen Kelly, committee co-chairwoman.

Some events are set while others are tentative.

The annual Easter egg hunt will be held at 10 a.m. March 21 at Little Sykes Railroad, Sandosky Road, Sykesville.

Children ages 2-8 will be divided into three age groups. Prizes will be awarded, including three grand-prize baskets.

The seventh annual Sykesville Golf Outing will be 1 p.m. April 18 at the Waverly Woods Golf Club in Marriottsville.

The cost is $380 for a team of three or four. Deadline is April 1. Food will be provided after the outing. Proceeds support the Sykesville Parks and Events Committee for activities in the town.

Last year, the event raised $2,000 and was donated to the Little Sykes Railroad and Gate House Museum of History.

Family Fun Day returns June 21 at Millard Cooper Park, off of Cooper Drive. The annual event is aimed toward children with games and activities. More details will come later in the year.

The Sykesville Concerts in the Park lineup is set. The annual free concert series in Millard Cooper Park will be held 7-9 p.m. Friday evenings, beginning July 11 and ending Aug. 15.

Radio Mosaic will open the series; Pet Rock, July 25; Dean Crawford and the Dunn’s River Band, Aug. 8; and RedLine, Aug. 15.

Also, back by popular demand are Sykesville Middle School students Tyler Atwell and Devon Nickoles. The duo, which performed during intermission for last year’s RedLine concert, will perform during the intermissions at this year’s series.

A Movie Night in the Park is scheduled for Aug. 22, and the committee hopes to have a band perform before the movie. The movie has not been selected yet.

‘‘It’s nice to start putting back the events that had been in place the past few years an try to add to it based on we feel the residents want,” Kelly said.

Kelly said she also hopes to add one or two teen concerts in between the Concerts in the Parks dates.
