Barbara Nadine Green

Barbara Nadine Green, 94, of Mount Airy went home to be with the Lord on Jan. 18, 2008, at her residence.

She was the wife of the late William Alfred Green who died in 1969. Born Jan. 5, 1914, at home in Plane No. 4, she was the daughter of the late Philip Frank and Barbara Ann Clay Scheel.

She was a homemaker and a long-time member of the Marvin Chapel United Methodist Church. She spent her life serving her community and helping those in need. She is known for her open door and hospitality to all. Her interests and passions showed in her family, gardening, canning and crafting with the homemakers club. Her possessions were not of this world and others needs came above her own.

Surviving are five children, Anna Mae Welty and Sarah ‘‘Bobbi” Knight Grossnickle, both of Westminster, Rosia Day and husband Bobby of Ijamsville, William F. Green Sr. and wife Rosemary of Damascus and Howard A. ‘‘Butch” Green, Sr. and wife Dottie of Ocala, Fla.; 14 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She is especially remembered by her cousin Dorine Burdette and her Marvin Chapel family.

Mrs. Green was preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, William A. Green; her siblings, Anna Moxley, John Scheel, Howard Scheel; and three of her grandchildren, Chuck Knight, Sandra Fowble, and Tim Welty

Arrangements were with Stauffer Funeral Home, Mount Airy. Funeral services were held at Marvin Chapel Church, Mount. Airy with her pastor, the Rev. Susan Boehl officiating.

Interment, in the church cemetery with grandsons Doug Day, Mike Day, Bill Green, Howard Green, David Knight, Danny Knight, Dean Knight, and Curtis Knight serving as pallbearers.
