Ottinger completes leadership program

Lawrence S. Ottinger, president of the Center for Lobbying in the Public Interest in Washington, recently completed an eight-month long leadership development program sponsored by Leadership Maryland.

Leadership Maryland, celebrating its 15th graduating class, honored this Chevy Chase resident, along with 51 statewide classmates.

Leadership Maryland, an independent, educational leadership development organization, informs top level executives from the public and private sectors about the critical issues, challenges and opportunities facing Maryland, and its regions.

Intellectual property law firm opens Bethesda office

Feldman Gale, a Miami firm that focuses on intellectual property matters, opened an office in Bethesda. The new office, located at 4720 Montgomery Lane, Suite 400, will be headed by firm partner Gregory L. Hillyer.

Hillyer, a registered patent attorney, focuses his practice in the field of patent law including litigation, procurement, client counseling, licensing, due diligence and opinion work. Prior to joining Feldman Gale, he worked as an associate attorney at a Philadelphia intellectual property firm and as a patent agent for the DuPont Pharmaceutical Company.

Bethesda financial advisor named NY Life council VP

New York Life Insurance Company has named James E. Adkins, Jr. council vice president, an honor bestowed annually on the New York Life agent with the entire company’s second highest performance achievements. As council vice president, Adkins is a leader of the company’s elite field force comprised of 10,500 licensed New York Life agents.

Adkins, associated with New York Life for eleven years, is a registered representative and financial advisor who employs 26 at the firm he founded, Strategic Financial Associates, LLC of Bethesda. Strategic Financial Associates is a financial planning, investment advisory and wealth management firm that focuses on providing financial expertise to clients who are interested in accumulating wealth and protecting assets while minimizing income and estate taxes. Strategic Financial Associates, LLC handles the corporate insurance for more than 400 companies and handles insurance and financial products for thousands of individuals, with a particular focus on small business owners, corporate executives, and professionals.

Bethesda ad agencywins awards

Martin Schaffer, Inc., a Bethesda advertising agency, won three awards in the 2007 Technical Publications Competitions held by the Washington, D.C. chapter of the Society for Technical Communication.

The agency received two awards for multi-media campaigns it developed for the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists during 2007. One promoted reference books, training material and software published by ASHP, and the other helped market ASHP’s annual Clinical Meeting and Exhibition to potential attendees and sponsors.

Martin Schaffer also won an STC award for an advertising campaign and collateral materials it produced to help launch Grace Biofuels Technologies group.

The Society for Technical Communication is the world’s largest professional organization dedicated to advancing the art and science of technical communications. The annual competitions are designed to encourage excellence and creativity in technical communications.

Bethesda residentjoins VOA

Veteran television news executive Steve Redisch joined the Voice of America (VOA) as Executive Editor. He supervises the daily operations and activities of VOA’s news, programs, language services, broadcast operations, and Internet departments.

Redisch joins VOA after a 20-year career with CNN, where he earned two Emmy Awards and a National Headliner Award.

Redisch graduated from New Milford High School in New Milford, N.J. in 1974. He began his broadcasting career in 1979 at WTOP all-news radio in Washington, D.C. after attending American University. In 1987 he moved to CNN’s Washington bureau as a television writer and producer, and in 1992 he relocated to Atlanta as a producer for the growing CNN International network.

Redisch lives in Bethesda with his wife and two children.

Attorneys named as ‘Top Lawyers’

Five attorneys at Paley Rothman of Bethesda have been selected ‘‘Top Lawyers” in Washingtonian Magazine’s ranking of the leading attorneys in a variety of practice areas. The list is created primarily from peer recommendations and includes only 1 percent of the estimated 80,000 lawyers in and around Washington.

*Kathleen M. Dumais, of Rockville, was selected in family law.

*Wayne D. Eig, of Bethesda, was chosen in the estate and probate category.

*Daniel P. Hodin, of North Potomac, was named a ‘‘Top Lawyer” in the real estate field.

*Howard B. Soypher, of New Market, was named in the divorce category.
