What a wonderful commentary from Rep. Donna Edwards ["Congress takes historic actions to overcome historic challenges," Dec. 18]. She was able to fit in almost every talking point from the DNC script.
She should consider lowering her rose-colored glasses for a moment and consider some of the realities suffered by us noncongressional serfs toiling to support the wild congressional spending party.
She failed to mention that she was elected in 2006 when the Democrat Party took over the majority, and when the accelerated spending began. She makes a thin argument against the deficit spending the George W. Bush was doing for six years of his presidency, while glossing over the pornographic pork barrel spending since she was elected? Personally, I would be embarrassed to tout bills that bailed out the banks and financial institutions that substantially contributed to the financial crisis, as well as the "stimulus" bill where three-fourths of its funds have yet to be spent.
Exactly how has the unspent money impacted the economy? Ms. Edwards should consider toning down her claims of supporting the American worker when her voting record shows all but one of her votes to control illegal immigration have been in favor of workers in the U.S. illegally, taking jobs from legal immigrants and minorities.
Be careful about what gets published in your name. The voters may have more to say about it in November than you figured on.
