Built in 1902, Hyland House was one of the first homes in Braddock Heights, the historic resort community atop Braddock Mountain.
Once a boarding house for vacationers seeking cool relief from summer's heat, this recently restored home combines modern features such as a whole-house surround-sound system with the same magnificent views of the Middletown valley that greeted guests a century ago.
Beyond is the dining room, also with fireplace. To the right of the foyer are double parlors with crown molding, built-in bookcases and a fireplace. During renovation, the rear parlor was opened to the second story, creating soaring space with 22-foot-tall ceilings. A side door leads to the wraparoiund porch.
The eat-in kitchen features maple floors, granite tops, custom cabinetry and GE Monogram appliances including a gas cooktop with a griddle and awarming drawer. The window above the sink offers a view of the valley, and a side door accesses the porch.
On the upper level, floored in cherry and original heart pine, the master bedroom also has valley views as well as two walk-in closets and a sitting area with wrap windows and a skylight. The master bath features a heated ceramic-tile floor, wainscoting, dual pedestal sinks, a Jacuzzi tub and a custom tile shower.
Two addition bedrooms are on this level, one with an adjacent bath with a shower. A laundry room with ceramic-tile floors and a third bath with wainscoting, an original claw-foot tub and a corner shower complete this level.
The walkout lower level features storage areas, a workout room and a media room with French doors to a flagstone patio with a retractable awning. The extensively landscaped backyard includes a fish pond and a detached, two-car garage with attic storage.
