Hearing on noise ordinance rescheduled

Residents who would like to comment on a request to exempt Liberty High School from the county’s noise ordinance will now have to wait until March 25.

The public hearing, which was moved due to a conflict with the Board of Education, will be held 7 p.m. in Room 003 in the Carroll County Office Building, 225 N. Center St., Westminster.

A sound reading taken after a resident complained the band’s practices interfered with the sleep of his two infant children showed spikes above the county’s 65-decibel limit set in the noise ordinance; however, the band was not cited.

The Board of Education will still request an exemption from the state’s noise ordinance for all county band practices, said Dr. Charles Ecker, Carroll County Public Schools superintendent.

Copies of the request are available at the county’s Web site, ccgovernment.carr.org and through the Department of the County Attorney in the County Office Building, which can be contacted at 410-386-2030.
