A man was struck by a car and killed this morning while trying to cross Route 301 at South Osborne Road in Upper Marlboro, police said.

William A. Van Croft III, 43, was hit at 8:30 a.m. while standing in the grassy median of Route 301, said Sgt. Arthur Betts, a spokesman for the Maryland State Police. Van Croft, of the 8800 block of Heathermore Boulevard in Upper Marlboro, was trying to get to a bus stop on the opposite side of the road, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver, 45-year-old Michael A. Colabucci, was heading north on Route 301 and stopped immediately after hitting Van Croft, Betts said.

Colabucci, of the 8100 block of Rosaryville Road in Upper Marlboro, was taken to Prince George’s County Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

The investigation was continuing and no charges had been filed as of 4 p.m., Betts said.
