Bowie State University did not have proper security controls in place from January 2004 to April 2007, leaving students’ and employees’ personal and financial information unsecured, according to a recently concluded audit.

Other significant findings by the state Department of Legislative Services include a balance of $1.3 million in uncollected payments from students, a lack of adequate computer system back-up procedures or a disaster recovery plan.

BSU did not respond to calls for comment.
