Registrations ongoing, Assault wins pair

Fort Washington Little League is registering boys and girls ages 4 to 18 for T-ball, baseball and softball. Children living in Camp Springs, Clinton, Forestville, Fort Washington, Morningside, Oxon Hill, Suitland, Temple Hills and Andrews Air Force Base are eligible. The Clinton Boys and Girls Club is looking for baseball, softball and soccer coaches. Candidates must be ASEP Certified and undergo a background check. The club is also seeking athletes ages 5 to 16 for all spring sports. The Fort Washington Area Recreation Council Boys and Girls Club is holding cheerleading registration for children ages 5 to 16 (ages 5 to 7 for peewee cheerleading). Assault wins pair

The D.C. Assault U-11 boys’ basketball team won games over the weekend in both the Potomac Valley League and Metro Sixers League against the Ivey 23 U-12 Terps, 40-33, and U-11 Team Turner, 32-14. Aaron Thomas, Adam Hamilton, Develle Phillips, Isaiah Martin, Jamal Wright, Jamar Arrinbell, Jiar Watson, Jordan Barr, Justin Route, Michael Jackson, Ra’mond Hines and Stevon Douglass led the Assault in both games.

Basketball events planned

The Maryland Ruff Riders are hosting the Hoops Explosion youth basketball tournament the weekend of Feb. 22-24. The tournament is open to all boys and girls basketball teams in the U-8 through U-14 age groups. Registration is $250 per team. There will be a DJ, raffles, fish fry, and free entertainment. The first March Madness Challenge Tournament for U-10 through U-12 boys will be held March 1-2 in Forestville. AAU age qualification rules apply. Each team is guaranteed three games. Cheerleaders sought

The Maryland Ruff Riders are holding tryouts for their cheerleading squad for girls ages 11 through 14. The squad cheers for all Ruff Rider basketball teams, travels, and competes in local cheerleading competitions and stresses academics and community service. Call Lisa Davis at 202-538-6469.

Track clubs seek athletes

The Southern Maryland Striders Track and Field Club will hold practices for the upcoming outdoor season beginning April 14 at Surrattsville High School in Clinton. The club, for ages 7 to 14, is a member of the AAU and USATF and competes locally, regionally and nationally. The Vision Elite Track Club is enrolling youth athletes ages 5 to 14 for the upcoming indoor track and field season. Coaches are also needed. The Maryland Ruff Riders are holding tryouts for three basketball teams: U-13 girls, a new U-8 boys’ team and a U-14 boys’ team. The club stresses academics and community service.
