John Edward Norman

John Edward “Jack“ Norman, 85, of Sykesville died Jan. 22, 2008 at St. Joseph Hospital in Towson.

Born Jan. 17, 1923 in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Edward and Edna Michael Norman. He was the husband of Norma June Norman of Sykesville, his wife of 52 years.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran having served during World War II in the Pacific Campaign. He had been a refrigeration engineer with ACME markets for many years. He was an avid collector and rescuer of snakes. He was a member of the Maryland Herpitology Society, MARS and the Maryland Philatelic Society. He was a volunteer at the Piney Run Nature Center. He was a member of VFW Molleville Farm Post 467 in Westminster, Sykesville American Legion Post 223 and the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Littlestown.

Surviving in addition to his wife are daughters Linda Babette Powder and her husband James “Dutch“ Powder of Sykesville and Norma Jean Geigan of Union Bridge; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Harvey O. and Marianne Riley; granddaughter Candy Powder Balk of Finksburg; and great-grandchildren Jillian and Jenna Balk.

He was predeceased by his daughter, Lydia Victoria Norman and by his twin brother, William M. Norman.

Funeral services were held at Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, Sykesville. Interment, in Lake View Memorial Park, Sykesville.
