Child abducted in Clinton auto theft Friday, Jan. 27, 2006 County Police are currently investigating the theft of four cars that were left running and unattended in Clinton and Brandywine on Jan. 26. In one case, a three-year-old girl was sitting in the back seat of one of the vehicles that was stolen.
At about 6:30 a.m. Timothy Anderson of Clinton buckled his granddaughter into her car seat when he ran quickly to shut the door of his house, leaving the car running. When he returned, he saw a suspect jump into his car and drive off. Anderson ran down the street after the car for about 200 yards until the car stopped and the child jumped out of it, according to a press release issued by the police department.
The suspect then drove off in the vehicle and the little girl, who was unharmed, was reunited with Anderson.
Auto theft is prevalent problem in the county and police are asking for the public’s help in trying to curb the amount of stolen cars.
Investigators are still trying to find out if all four stolen cars were related.
