Ciena Corp. of Linthicum was selected by the California Institute of Technology to provide its optical switch for use in Catech’s multi-national research networking efforts. Marshall Management of Salisbury won contracts to manage Hampton Inn locations in Pittsburgh and Greensboro, N.C., a Clarion hotel in Memphis, Tenn., and the Country Inn & Suites in Chesapeake, Va. Kelson Holdings LLC of Columbia plans to sell the 1,230-megawatt Redbud power plant near Luther, Okla., for $852 million to Oklahoma Gas & Electric Co., which then plans to sell partial stakes to the Grand River Dam Authority and the Oklahoma Power Municipal Authority. The deal is subject to closing conditions and regulatory approvals. Also, an affiliate, Kelson Energy III LLC was approved as the stalking horse bidder in the proposed sale of Southaven Power LLC’s assets at a bankruptcy auction. Southaven is an 810-MW combined-cycle natural gas-fired power plant in DeSoto County, Miss. Lockheed Martin in Rockville won a four-year, $33 million contract from the Internal Revenue Service to operate, maintain and enhance e-Services, a suite of Web-based products to help tax professionals and payers conduct business with the IRS electronically. AMR Commercial LLC of Bethesda was selected by the Core Network to be its Maryland, Northern Virginia and Washington, D.C., network partner in commercial real estate brokerage services. Zenoss Inc. of Annapolis, which provides commercial open source network and systems management software, announced an $11 million round of financing led by Grotech Capital Group. Also participating were existing investors Intersouth Partners, Boulder Ventures and the Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development. Emergent BioSolutions of Rockville and and Ninebio Sdn. Bhd. of Putrajaya, Malaysia, formed a joint venture in Malaysia to create research and development and manufacturing infrastructure, plus supply biodefense products, including Emergent’s anthrax vaccine. The companies expect to provide these products and services to Malaysia, other member countries of the Organisation of the Islamic Conference and other Asian nations. The venture will be majority owned by Emergent; Ninebio Sdn. Bhd. is owned by the government of Malaysia. Adventist HealthCare of Rockville, which owns hospitals and other health care facilities in Maryland and New Jersey, is partnering with InforMed of Annapolis, a health care technology company, to form LifeWork Strategies. The new venture is to provide employers in the mid-Atlantic region with a range of cost-effective services designed to improve existing health plans and employee health.
