As part of its 10th anniversary celebration, Honest Tea’s co-founders, Barry Nalebuff and Seth Goldberg, along with more than 50 Honest Tea employees joined the Washington, D.C. chapter of City Year on Jan. 10 to help refurbish and brighten the hallways and entrance areas of the Marie R. Reed Community Learning Center in the nation’s capital as part of the company’s ongoing commitment to support community service projects and activities.

By the end of the day the Honest Tea volunteers had painted several murals throughout the center and prepared flowerbeds in front of the building, which serves a primarily lower income and multi-ethnic community in the Adam Morgan’s neighborhood. The murals were composites of flags, images and inspirational sayings chosen by the students and community members to convey messages of hope and insight.

Honest Tea of Bethesda has a longstanding relationship with City Year. Over its 10-year history, the company has provided hundreds of volunteer hours to support City Year projects including school renewal activities, mentoring, among others. In 2001, Honest Tea introduced the flavor, Community Green, in partnership with City Year. To date, 4,424,856 bottles of Community Green have been sold with a recruiting message for City Year on the label, spreading the word about this highly effective community service organization across the country.
