Prince George’s County Animal Management Division offers a Pet Parenting 101 course to the community at no charge. Topics include introducing a pet to your home and family, pet-proofing your home and yard, pet health and nutrition, behavior and training issues, as well as breed characteristics to consider and estimated costs of pet ownership. By Kids For Kids company is now accepting ideas for inventions for school tools or supplies. All Maryland students in kindergarten through 12th grade can participate, and the submission deadline is March 5. Entries are only accepted through the BKFK Web site at www.bkfk.com⁄mdchallenge. Prizes include legal support to patent the invention, if patentable, and a $1,000 savings bond.

The NARHAMS Model Rocket Club is holding a series of building sessions and launches to introduce kids to model rocketry. The program costs $50, is open to ages 7 through 18 and includes membership in the National Association of Rocketry, materials to build three model rockets and supplies to launch them up to 9 times. The Natural Outdoor Hazards Program is held Tuesdays through Fridays by appointment out of the Park Ranger Office at 14955 Pennsylvania Ave., Upper Marlboro. Teachers can schedule rangers to visit their classroom and provide students in grades 3 through 6 with valuable information about stinging insects, poisonous plants, venomous snakes and other natural outdoor hazards via a one-hour, interactive slide presentation. Old Maryland Farm activities and programs are available at the farm, 301 Watkins Park Drive, Upper Marlboro. Visitors can tour the garden, enjoy a hayride, host a barnyard party and watch a farmer care for livestock or feed farm animals, as well as ride a pony led by staff.
