Allegheny lends a hand

In the aftermath of a fire on Mount Airy’s Main Street in September of last year, relief efforts to assist the victims and the community in rebuilding came from all areas.

As Mount Airy hurried to set up to take advantage of the commerce from holiday shoppers, the Temporary Downtown Shopping Village was set up in the railyard at 3 N. Main St. as a location for the pods that would house the businesses that were able to reopen.

Allegheny Power provided the additional lighting that was needed as part of its Community Outreach program. Lighting was needed to illuminate a stairwell that was installed leading from the town’s parking lot on Center Street to the temporary shopping village, as well as in a nearby parking lot in order to improve visibility and safety for parking at night. The company provided the lighting at no cost to the town.
