BroadSoft Inc. of Gaithersburg, a provider of voice over Internet protocol applications for the telecommunications industry, has enlarged its base of operations by acquiring VoIP application company Sylantro Systems Corp. of Campbell, Calif.
Sylantro Systems products include its Multiplay Application Feature Server, which the company says enables "rich, hosted IP communication services across fixed, mobile and cable networks."
"Sylantro has been a strong competitor of BroadSoft for 10 years. This acquisition further advances our market and innovative leadership position," said Michael Tessler, president and CEO of BroadSoft, in a statement.
Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
Besides Gaithersburg, and now, Campbell, BroadSoft has development and customer operations centers in Montreal; Dallas; Bangalore, India; Sydney, Australia; and Belfast, Northern Ireland.
The privately held company saw revenue rise from $5.4 million in 2003 to $36.8 million in 2006, according to Inc.
BroadSoft, which celebrated its 10th anniversary last year, provides VoIP application software for the delivery of hosted telephony and multimedia services. Its flagship BroadWorks product is designed to help wireless, wireline and cable carriers deliver next-generation voice and multimedia applications, according to BroadSoft information.
Just Moulding expands
Just Moulding, a Gaithersburg home improvement company, has sold its first franchise, to open early this year in Boston. The company expects to open five to 10 franchises in the mid-Atlantic and Northeast this year.
CEO Mark Rubin said that with fluctuations in the market for new home sales, more homeowners are choosing to invest in their current home.
Just Moulding offers custom design and installation of interior architectural moldings such as crown, chair rail and wainscoting in homes, hotels and offices.
Giant to offer free antibiotics
Giant Food of Landover will be offering free 14-day supplies for 36 generic antibiotics in nine basic categories. The program runs through March 21.
"The cost of this program is absorbed by Giant. We see it as a good investment," said spokesman Jamie Miller.
Giant isn't the first supermarket chain to offer free antibiotics. Both Martin's of Indiana and Publix Super Markets of Lakeland, Fla., have given them away over the last year.
