Celesta West

Celesta Sharlene West, 71, of Poolesville died Dec. 27 at George Washington University Hospital in Washington, D.C. following an extended illness.

Born April 14, 1936, in Indian Valley, Va., she was the daughter of the late Early and Gerusha Phillips Hollandsworth.

She was the wife of Russell G. West.

Mrs. West was a lifelong member of the Poolesville Memorial United Methodist Church where she was a greeter and usher. She participated in the Adult Sunday School class, United Methodist Women’s Group, Crafty Ladies and Gents and Ladies Covenant Discipleship. She was a member of the Emmaus Community, a lifetime member of the Upper Montgomery County Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and the International Organization of Odd Fellows Rebekkas.

Survivors in addition to her husband include two daughters, Kathy Cody and husband, Ed of Poolesville, and Karen Williams of Dickerson; one sister, Treva Cannaday of Virginia; and two grandsons. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Gaye B. Wade and Geneva Bryson; three brothers, Lucas, Melvin and Everett Hollandsworth; and one grandson, Kelly O. Williams III.

Funeral services were held on Dec. 31 at Poolesville Memorial United Methodist Church. Interment followed in Monocacy Cemetery, Beallsville.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Poolesville Memorial United Methodist Church, ‘‘Memorial Fund,” 17821 Elgin Road, Poolesville, MD 20837.
