Van T. Mitchell

The former Charles County delegate and current deputy secretary of the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene fits the bill as a potential candidate for comptroller in 2010. A fiscal conservative and business owner, Mitchell would provide geographic balance to the powerful Board of Public Works and would not be shy about challenging his former House Appropriations Committee colleague Franchot for the job.
