The Gazette has compiled a list of homicides committed in Prince George's County during 2011 from press releases issued by the county police department. This list on our website is updated regularly.

January

Jan. 1

Prince George's County police were called to an apartment on the 5700 block of Cypress Creek Drive around 10:24 a.m. and found Ansel Donovan Whitelocke, 58, suffering from trauma to his upper body, according to police reports. He was pronounced dead on the scene. Police arrested Demarco Williams, 23; David Wright, 28; and Verlyncia Coleman, 21, all of Hyattsville, who were charged with first- and second-degree murder, manslaughter and armed robbery, according to online district court records.

Jan. 4

At approximately 12:45 a.m., Prince George's County police found Laurel resident Clifton Antion Turner, 42, of the 3400 block of Fort Meade Road shot dead outside the Upscale Ballroom in the 3900 block of Bexley Place in Suitland, according to police reports.

At about 2:30 a.m., Prince George's County police responded to sounds of gunshots and found Mark Andrew Davis Jr., 28, of the 1700 block of Addison Road South in District Heights dead inside a home in the 7200 block of Crafford Place in Fort Washington, according to police reports.

At 7:30 a.m., Prince George's County police responded to Tucker and Palmer roads in Fort Washington and found Larry Junior Watkins, 38, of the 7200 block of Crafford Place in Fort Washington suffering from gunshot wounds, police said. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

At about 11:45 p.m., four people were found shot in the 4000 block of Norcross Street in Temple Hills, Prince George's County police said. One of the men shot died of his injuries after an apparent armed robbery attempt, police said. When police arrived, they found Michael DeAngelo Layne, 19, of the 3900 block of Triton Court in Temple Hills with a gunshot wound and pronounced him dead on the scene, according to police reports.

Jan. 5

A resident of the apartment complex in the 1300 block of Southview Drive in Oxon Hill called Prince George's County police at approximately 9 p.m. to report that a man was bleeding in the hallway, police said. When police arrived, they found Terrance Calvin Hunter, 30, of the 13000 block of Rhame Drive in Fort Washington in a stairwell of the complex with trauma to his body. He was pronounced dead on scene, according to police reports. Vincent Eugene Miles, 29, of the 1500 block of Chillum Road in Chillum and Neil Elmore Lawrence, 31, of the 1800 block of Glendora Drive in District Heights were both charged with first-degree murder in the killing.

Jan. 6

At about 11:45 a.m., Prince George's County police responded to the 900 block of Central Hills Lane in Seat Pleasant, and found Maurice D. Valentine, 26, of Washington, D.C., shot. He was pronounced dead on the scene. Police have arrested and charged James E. Taylor, 17, of Upper Marlboro as an adult with first-degree murder and armed robbery.

Jan. 7

Alitha Mae Jenkins, 51, of the 2400 block of Kent Village Place in Landover, was found dead around 8 a.m. Jan. 7 along a commercial stretch of roadway in Capitol Heights, Prince George's County police said. There were no obvious signs of trauma on her body, said police, who did not release the cause of her death.

Jan. 8

At about 8 a.m., Alejandro Marcos Diaz Vasquez, 30, of the 7900 block of 15th Avenue in Langley Park, was found stabbed in the parking lot of an apartment complex in the 1400 block of University Boulevard in Hyattsville. The man was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, according to Prince George's County police reports. County police arrested Oscar Rosales-Madrid, 16, of the 1400 block of Kanawha Street in Langley Park on Jan. 24 and charged with first and second degree murder.

At approximately 9 p.m., Corteza Warren Livingston, 21, of the 3100 block of Dynasty Drive in Forestville was fatally shot at his home along with his 24-year-old brother. Prince George's County police believe the shooting resulted from an argument between the brother, whose name has not been released, and his child's mother while they were exchanging custody of the infant. Donte Douglas, 18, of the 600 block of Elfin Avenue in Capitol Heights has been charged with first-degree murder in the killing.

Jan. 10

At about 6:15 p.m., Juan Aguilar, 25, of the 8100 block of 15th Avenue in Adelphi was killed in a double-stabbing in the 2400 block of East University Boulevard in Lewisdale during an alleged gang attack, according to Prince George's County police reports. Aguilar and another man, who was hospitalized in stable condition as of Jan. 11, were found stabbed in a parking lot, less than a mile west from the Saturday morning fatal stabbing. Aguilar died at an area hospital. Police said the men were attacked by men who mistakenly believed they were members of a rival gang.

Jan. 11

Justin DeSha-Overcash, a 22-year-old University of Maryland, College Park, student, was found shot at about 11:27 a.m. at his off-campus College Park home at the 8800 block of 38th Avenue. He was transported to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to Prince George's County police reports. Prince George's County police arrested two men March 31 for the shooting.

At about 8:40 p.m., Clyde Antwone Rosevelt Howard, 30, of the 6800 block of Riverdale Road in New Carrollton was killed by a resident apparently acting in self-defense when Rosevelt tried to break into his home in the 7400 block of Riverdale Road in Lanham, said Prince George's County police.

Jan. 19

Prince George's County police responded to a report of gunshots at 2:42 a.m. in the 3500 block of Terrace Drive in Suitland and found Douglas Hodge Jordan Jr., 22, of the 2200 block of Mount View Place in S.E. Washington, D.C. suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, police said. Jordan died at an area hospital.

Jan. 24

At 5 p.m., Prince George's County police responded to the Pennsylvania Station Shopping Center in the 5700 block of Silver Hill Road in District Heights for a report of gunshots, police said. They found McKinney Antonio White Jr., 34, of the 6800 block of Atwood Street in District Heights shot multiple times, police said. White died at the scene, police said.

Jan. 29

Prince George's County police responding at about 3:30 a.m. to a report of gunshots outside the Plaza 23 Club on St. Barnabas Road in Suitland found Brandon Earl Braswell of Washington, D.C., police said. Braswell, 24, was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said.

February

Feb. 13

Around 2 p.m., Prince George's County police were called to an apartment in the 4400 block of 23rd Parkway in Temple Hills and found Christopher Alan Trueheart suffering from physical trauma. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Eldridge Slaughter, 42, of the 2100 block of I Street N.E. in Washington, D.C., was arrested and charged Feb. 14 with first- and second-degree murder.

At approximately 4 a.m., Prince George's County police found Forestville resident Ralph Bernard Thomas Jr., 28, suffering from stab wounds in the 7500 block of Marion Street in District Heights. Thomas, of the 2200 block of Barkley Place, was stabbed during an argument about three miles away, at the corner of Silver Hill and Suitland roads in Suitland, police said. Thomas died after he was taken to an area hospital, police said.

Feb. 14

Prince George's County police were called to the 900 block of Kennebec Street in the Glassmanor neighborhood in Oxon Hill around 11:30 p.m. to check on the welfare of a man seen lying on the ground, police said. Police found Darian Michael Hintonk, 27, of the 4300 block of Apple Gate Place in Suitland, suffering from physical trauma and had possibly been shot, police said. He was transported to an area hospital, where he died shortly after arrival, police said.

Feb. 17

Prince George's County police responded to the 13000 block of Mistletoe Spring Road in South Laurel for the report of a shooting and found Aaron Patrick Brown, 24, of the 12200 block of Apache Tears Circle in Laurel had been shot. He died on the scene from his injuries.

March

March 4

Edmonston police officers responded to a report of gunshots near Surf Club Live on the 4000 block of Kenilworth Avenue shortly after 1 a.m., said Edmonston police. Officers found Phillip Watson, 30, of Washington, D.C., suffering from an apparent gunshot wound, police said. Watson was transported to Prince George's Hospital Center in Cheverly, where he died of his injuries, police said. Malik Huff, 24, of the 5600 block of Cypress Creek Drive outside Hyattsville, was arrested May 13 and charged with one count of first-degree murder, one count of second-degree murder, one count of first-degree assault, one count of second-degree assault, one count of manslaughter and one count of felony use of a handgun, according to court records. On May 5, Las Vegas, Nev. police arrested Frederick Scott, 24, of the 1900 block of Oliver Street near Hyattsville. Scott is awaiting extradition to Prince George's County, county police said.

March 9

Prince George's County police were called to a home in the 1300 block of Eli Place in Landover around 4:40 a.m. to check on the welfare of an unconscious person. Upon arriving, they found George Eugene Borden, 46, on the floor with trauma to his body. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

March 19

Prince George's County police officers responded to a report of a shooting around 8:40 p.m. and found Standard Sweet, 57, of the 3900 block of First Street S.W. in Washington, D.C. with a gunshot wound in the parking lot of Frank's Tavern, a bar and liquor store located at 1703 Kenilworth Ave. in Capitol Heights. Sweet was taken to an area hospital, where he died, police said. Sweet was in a parked car behind the store when he was approached by two men who tried to rob him and when he refused to hand over anything, he was shot, police said.

March 24

Prince George's County police were called to the 2900 block of Victory Lane in Suitland where they found one man who was pronounced dead on the scene and a second who was transported to an area hospital, police said.

March 27

Prince George's County police officers responded to the 6800 block of Seat Pleasant Drive in Seat Pleasant around 8:30 p.m. after they received a report of gunshots in the area. They found Paul Jason Bennett, 38, of the 5100 block of Seventh Street N.W. in Washington, D.C., lying in a parking lot suffering from a gunshot wound. Bennett died on the scene. Bennett, a Domino's Pizza deliveryman, was shot either making a delivery or returning from one, police said.

March 28

Prince George's County police officers responded at 3:19 a.m. to the 8300 block of Central Avenue in Capitol Heights after receiving a report of gunshots in the area. They found Brian Vincent Cooper, 20, of the 130 block of Ivanhoe Street S.W. in Washington, D.C., was shot after leaving an area night club, located about a mile from the site of the shooting. Cooper was transported to an area hospital where he died from his injuries, police said. Police said Cooper had been at MSG Night Club at 7292 Central Ave. earlier, and police are investigating whether he may have been involved in any of several altercations reported there that night.

April 8

At approximately 10:35 p.m., the Prince George's County Fire/EMS Department responded to Check Experts LLC at 5439 Annapolis Road in Bladensburg for a report of a commercial fire. They found store owner Richard Changsun Nam, 69, of the 10800 block of Lake Arbor Way in Mitchellville, inside the burning store suffering from trauma to his body inconsistent with the fire, said county police. Nam was transported to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Ashley Dominique Owens, 23, of the 5700 block of 16th Avenue, was arrested June 30 and charged with second-degree murder, first-degree arson and armed robbery.

April 22

Michael Rayvon Chamberlin, 17, of the 3500 block of Stanton Road SE in Washington, D.C., was found dead at about 10 p.m. in the 3300 block of 27th Avenue in Temple Hills, said Prince George's County police.

Dorothy Lewis-Gray, 47, of the 6500 block of Hil Mar Drive in District Heights, was stuck by two vehicles and killed just before midnight Friday at Pennsylvania Avenue and Donnell Drive in Forestville, said Prince George's County police. The first vehicle that hit Lewis-Gray stayed at the scene, but the second left, police said.

April 25

James Anthony Jackson Jr., 28, of the 4700 block of Rockwood Street in Waldorf was found shot to death in the 700 block of Cady Drive in Fort Washington, said Prince George's County police. Police responded to the shooting call shortly after 1 a.m. and found Jackson unresponsive and lying on the sidewalk. He was pronounced dead at an area hospital.

April 29

Prince George's County police responded at 3:30 p.m. to a report of gunshots in the 3200 block of Branch Avenue in Temple Hills.

Therin Martin, 39, of the 5000 block of Hunt Place in Northeast Washington, D.C., was found suffering from gunshot wounds and was taken to an area hospital and pronounced dead, police said.

May

May 5

Prince George's County police responded about 2:30 p.m. to the 7700 block of Penbrook Place in Landover and found Marcus Anthony Simms, 26, of the 400 block of Montrose Avenue in Laurel. Simms was pronounced dead on the scenes, police said.

May 11

James W. Speaks, 28, of the 4500 block of Wheeler Road of Oxon Hill was found fatally shot in the upper body in a parking lot about a block from his home, just over the Washington, D.C., line by Prince George's County police responding at about 7:05 p.m. to a call about a shooting. Speaks was transported to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Benjamin Vance, 34, of the 5200 block of North Capitol Street in Northeast Washington, D.C., was arrested May 20 and faces a first-degree murder charge.

May 12

Prince George's County police found an employee at a Fort Washington 7-Eleven shot in an apparent robbery shot in the store in the 9200 block of Oxon Hill Road. The man was transported to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

May 15

Christian Clayton Dudley, 36, of the 8500 block of Grandhaven Avenue was pronounced dead at the 8500 block of Grandhaven Avenue in Upper Marlboro when Prince George's County police patrol officers responded to the block at approximately 11:20 p.m. for a report of a shooting and found the victim suffering from trauma to the body.

May 19

Shortly after 11 p.m., Prince George's County police responded to the 3500 block of Leslie Avenue in Temple Hills and found Tiara Janae Caple, 21, of the 3500 block of Leslie Avenue and a man with stab wounds. Caple was pronounced dead after she was brought to a hospital. Police said investigators are looking the possibility that the stabbing was the result of a domestic dispute, as well as whether a third person was involved.

May 27

No arrests have been made yet in the Friday homicide in the 1700 block of Kenilworth Avenue which claimed the life of Jimmie Lee Hunter, 34, of Temple Hills. Police found Hunter at about 7:25 p.m. in the parking lot of Frank's Tavern suffering from an upper body gunshot wound.

May 30

Prince George's County Police responded at about 11:34 p.m. to reports of a shooting in the 1300 block of Rollins Avenue in Capitol Heights, police said. Police discovered Sean Oneil Ellis, 24, of the 1900 block of Colette Terrace in District Heights, and Anthony Stevens Mckelvin, 28, of the 4200 block of Suitland Road in Suitland, inside a vehicle suffering from upper body gunshot wounds. Both were pronounced dead on the scene, police said.

About 8:35 a.m., a man was found dead with a stab wound to his stomach in the 900 block of Chillum Road. The man was identified as Edward Jerome Scott, 60, of Washington, D.C.

May 31

Lanham resident Alusine Kargbo, 23, who was playing basketball at the Carrollton Elementary School basketball court in the 8300 block of Quintana Street about 8:50 p.m., was killed by an unknown male who approached with a gun, according to New Carrollton police.

The gunman fired three shots into the crowd, hitting Kargbo in the back, police said. Kargbo was taken to the Medstar trauma center, where he was pronounced dead about 11 p.m., police said.

June

June 7

Prince George's County police responded at about 11:30 p.m. to a call about a person unconscious at the corner of Bald Eagle and Oxon Hill roads in Oxon Hill. Police found Anton DeMichael Agurs, 43, of the 1700 block of Gould Street in Capitol Heights suffering from trauma to the body. He was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

June 10

Prince George's County police responded to the 11100 block of John Paul Jones Avenue in Fort Washington at 11:05 p.m. for a report of a shooting and found Marquis Emmanuel Davis, 16, of the 5300 block of East Boniwood Turn in Clinton. He was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

June 23

About 3:30 p.m., Prince George's County police responded to a report of a shooting in the 4700 block of 23rd Parkway in Hillcrest Heights. Officers found 23-year-old Adrian Jerome Perry, 23, of the 4500 block of Bishopmill Drive in Upper Marlboro, with a gunshot wound, police said. Perry was taken to a hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

July 1

Prince George's County police responded at about 6:25 p.m. to the 6500 block of America Boulevard to a report of a fight, police said.

Officers found Leonard Raynod Smith-Matthews, 21 of Hyattsville suffering from stab wounds, police said. He was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
