Advertising Sales Consultant, Temporary Full-Time

Editorial assistant
The Gazette, publisher of community newspapers and websites in the Maryland suburbs of Washington, seeks an editorial assistant to perform office manager duties in its fast-paced Gaithersburg newsroom.
The ideal candidate must be well organized and able to handle a variety of tasks under deadline pressure, have excellent writing, verbal and interpersonal skills and be able to work in a dynamic team setting.
Duties include:
Handling customer service calls and written inquiries, directing calls and responding to reader requests for basic information, channeling incoming material to the appropriate news editors and reporters.
Accurately writing and fact-checking news and event briefs, including police reports, calendar listings and obituaries.
Coordinating basic office management duties, such as mail sorting, processing expense and financial forms, ordering supplies and equipment services, scheduling, typing and filing.
On a rotating basis, providing front-desk coverage at the company’s headquarters during the receptionist’s break times. This requires skills in operating a multiline switchboard.
Candidate must be proficient with basic office software, including word-processing, spreadsheet and email. Experience with web services and HTML a plus.
Hours are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.; some night and weekend work could be necessary on rare occasions. There will be opportunities to write news and feature stories for our newspapers and websites, as time permits.

Arts & Entertainment writer
The Gazette is looking for an Arts & Entertainment writer. The candidate should have a broad interest in all related topics, including music, theater, fine arts, food/dining and film.
The candidate will be required to produce a minimum of five stories weekly spanning A&E coverage areas in Montgomery, Frederick and Prince George’s counties. Writer should be adept at interviewing multiple sources and exhibit exemplary research skills in the interest of creating complete, well-rounded articles. The position may require travel to outlying coverage areas beyond the confines of the office.
The candidate should have an engaging, lively and fun writing style that mirrors the subject matter, a knack for generating original story ideas and an eye for catchy and appealing visuals. Applicants should be web savvy with a thorough knowledge of social media outlets (including, but not limited to, Facebook and Twitter) and have skills to produce daily web content and postings.
