To get herself ready for Monday’s Montgomery County Indoor Track and Field Championships, Churchill’s Audrey Gariepy-Bogui followed some simple advice her coach, Scott Silverstein, gave her. She made a plan of action for the four events she was competing in, taking time to list her goals. Not only did she meet those goals, Gariepy-Bogui exceeded them, establishing new personal bests and Montgomery County records in the 55-meter hurdles, the high jump and the triple jump to score 38 points on her own, helping Churchill win in second consecutive girls championship.

Jason Edwards’s bid for a second tournament title of the season came up two matches short at the recent Hub Cup Invitational Wrestling Tournament. The Northwest wrestler fell to eventual champion Delon Agee of host North Hagerstown in the semifinals and had to settle for third place.

To call Chimso Okoji’s journey from a little-known football player to one of the most coveted college recruits in Montgomery County a whirlwind would almost be an understatement. Less than six months ago, Okoji, a senior linebacker and tight end on Kennedy High’s football team, was barely on the radar of recruiters. Yet, after a season in which Okoji averaged 16 tackles a game and helped Kennedy to 10 wins, including its first playoff victory in 22 years, colleges have been calling. Maybe, even, a little too often.
