Headaches: Diagnosis and Novel Treatments

DiFazio Did you know that headaches are surprisingly common in children? In fact, most children have experienced an occasional headache. Many parents are surprised that so many children suffer from frequent headaches, but children often have difficulty describing what they feel, and how it affects them during the day. Up to 15-20% of children suffer from severe headaches or frequent headaches that disrupt a child's ability to learn, participate in sports or extracurricular activities. Although the cause of most types of headaches remains unknown, research is helping to identify underlying problems associated with migraine, tension and cluster headaches. However, focusing only on pain relief is usually not enough. We are honored to have Dr. Marc DiFazio, a pediatric neurologist, present a thoughtful and detailed discussion on treatment options including medicines, life style changes and non-medical therapies such as biofeedback or relaxation techniques.
