Frank M. Johnson was sworn in Tuesday as Gaithersburg’s assistant city attorney.

The newly created position is designed to help City Attorney Lynn Board with a growing list of duties, including advising city commissions, committees and boards, land use regulation, public information act requests and litigation. He will attend the city’s planning commission and historic district commission meetings.

Before coming to Gaithersburg, Johnson was a member of the Mount Airy Town Council and later was the municipality’s mayor.

His starting salary is $124,000.
