Former Barrie volunteer assistant coach Edith White takes the varsity girls basketball reigns from the recently departed Warren Crutchfield and she inherits a solid squad that could make some noise in the Potomac Valley Athletic Conference.

White, who has also been a volunteer assistant coach at Pallotti, returns three consistent starters in 4-foot-3 point guard Lauren Abbott, 5-3 small forward Lisa Solomon and 5-5 junior power forward Janel McFarlane. McFarlane was a first-team All-PVAC selection a year ago. Solomon made the All-PVAC third team.

White also received an early Christmas present in the form of transfer student Christine Jenkins, who is a 5-9 sophomore forward/center.

"Those are my seasoned or veteran players," White said. "They have playing experience. [All four girls] should have no problem averaging at least double figures. The rest of my girls are relatively young and are still learning the game.

"I think we're going to hold our own. As long as they continue to play together, we should be all right."
