Police say a Silver Spring man who died Sunday while hiking near the Potomac River was likely killed by falling rocks.

Rian Avarham Khalder, 25, of the 11300 block of Monticello Road was hiking with his 14-year-old brother on an island near the Old Angler’s Inn boat ramp in Potomac, according to a statement from the Montgomery County Police Department.

Khalder began climbing rocks, some of which — including a large boulder — gave way and fell on him. Police and rescue personnel arrived at about 4:38 p.m. and found Khalder dead, according to police.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will perform an autopsy, but foul play is not suspected in the case, said Cpl. Rebecca Innocenti, a county police spokeswoman.
