A motorcyclist who collided with an SUV in Potomac on Wednesday afternoon has died of his injuries, according to police.

The SUV, a 2011 BMW X5, was traveling north on River Road shortly before 4 p.m., when its driver, 46-year-old Ritula Bhutani Mehndiratta of Potomac, tried to turn left onto Rivers Edge Drive. The SUV collided with the southbound 2014 Honda NC700 motorcycle, according to a statement from the Montgomery County Police Department.

Witnesses gave first aid to the motorcyclist, identified as Navdeep Singh Kang, 25, of Sewickley, Pa. Kang was taken to a local hospital, where he died of his injuries. Mehndiratta was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to police.

The collision remains under investigation by the police’s Collision Reconstruction Unit, and police ask anyone with information about the crash to call 240-773-6620. Callers can remain anonymous.
