This story was corrected at 5:15 p.m. Aug. 28, 2014. An explanation follows the story.

Police in Montgomery County are investigating an Aug. 14 collision that resulted in the death of a motorcyclist.

At about 5:53 p.m., a 2009 Toyota Camry and a 2004 Suzuki Intruder motorcycle were driving north on Columbia Pike in Silver Spring, but had to slow down for traffic. A 2010 Toyota Prius traveling behind the Suzuki didn’t slow down fast enough and struck the back of the motorcycle, according to a statement from county police.

The motorcycle then struck the Camry in front of it, and the rider — identified as Mark Charles Eckl, 57, of the 1500 block of West Lombard Street in Baltimore — was thrown from the bike, according to the statement.

Eckl was taken to Medstar Hospital and died of his injuries Aug. 20, according to police.

The driver of the Camry was identified as Delicia Elvira Moore, 51, of the 3400 block of Castle Way in Silver Spring. The driver of the Prius was Niklaas Derk Hickman, 35, of the 8400 block of Charmed Days in Laurel.

No one else was injured in the crash.

Police initially cited Hickman for the collision, but revoked that charge when Eckl died. Additional charges are possible, police spokeswoman Angela Cruz said.

The collision is still under investigation and anyone with information is asked to contact the Collision Reconstruction Unit at 240-773-6620. Callers can remain anonymous.

An earlier version of this story misspelled the name of the motorcycle operator. It is Mark Charles Eckl, not Ecki.
