Maryland State Police flying last month in a Maryland National Guard helicopter spotted what appeared to be a marijuana crop growing in the backyard of a Mechanicsville home, according to charging papers later filed against the resident.

Thomas Ernest White, 42, was charged last week through a summons with the possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute.

Law officers eventually raided the Ronald Drive address and found 28 suspected marijuana plants in the backyard, and 14 dried suspected marijuana plants inside the home, according to a charges application filed by Trooper Dustin Brill.
